Neighborhood Profile: Mid North/Homeplace

Over the decades, Hillsborough subdivisions have emerged at a slow creep, usually tied to the dissolving of the great legacy estates. Hillsborough's Homeplace area off of Barroilhet assumed its land with the 1976 subdivision of Jennie Crocker Henderson's Homeplace. Mrs. Henderson's 130 acre Homeplace estate featured a 1920s Revival mansion with romantic verandas at the crest of the knoll now known as Homeplace Court. No longer standing, the home was designed by Gordon Kaufmann, architect of Hoover Dam among other celebrated works.

The Homeplace area includes streets such as Barroilhet, Stonepine, Homeplace Court, and Farm Lane, featuring larger constructions of the 1970s-2000s. Heading up Farm Lane where it meets San Raymundo Road, you will enter the neighborhood also known as Hillsborough Knolls, where it merges with Homeplace. This region in its entirety, composed of Homeplace and Hillsborough Knolls, I call Mid North/Homeplace. The Knolls portion encompasses 1920s-1930s streets such as El Centro and El Arroyo. The architecture here could not be more charismatic! Like a taste of Old Hollywood with examples of 1920s Revival at its finest. The entire Mid North/Homeplace neighborhood of Hillsborough is a "north-centric" lifestyle, meaning it is assigned primarily to North School and is convenient to downtown Burlingame.
